Arkansas City man arrested Oct. 20 on suspicion of burglary
Melvin also arrested on suspicion of two counts of theft; two victims in case
An Arkansas City man was arrested Oct. 20 by the Arkansas City Police Department in connection with a home burglary that was reported Oct. 19.
Darrell Edward Michael Melvin, 21, was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary and two counts of misdemeanor theft.
He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield in lieu of $7,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City.
Melvin remained in custody at the time of this release.
An 18-year-old Arkansas City male reported Oct. 19 that he had been the victim of burglary and theft. He reported coming home and discovering items missing from his residence.
Officers learned Oct. 20 that the items reported stolen had been pawned at Double Eagle Firearms & Pawn, 104 S. Summit St.
They identified the suspect as Melvin, who was located later that night, interviewed and subsequently arrested in connection. All but one stolen item was recovered and returned to the owner.
The charges of burglary and one count of theft are for the incident at the victim’s home, while the second count of theft is for receiving money in exchange for stolen goods, with Double Eagle as victim.
A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
