Arkansas City Police Department logoAn Arkansas City man was arrested early Dec. 18 by the Arkansas City Police Department following a traffic stop in north-central Arkansas City.

Antonio Isauro Agudo, 49, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, identity theft, no driver’s license, no proof of insurance, interference with law enforcement and refusal of a preliminary breath test. He also was arrested on a Shawnee County District Court warrant for identity theft.

Agudo was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield in lieu of $9,900 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. His bond on the Shawnee County warrant was set at $25,000.

Agudo remained in custody at the time of this release.

Officers were dispatched at 12:32 a.m. Dec. 18 for a report of a possibly drunk driver southbound on Summit Street. They located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle in the 600 block of North A Street.

When officers located the vehicle, it was being driven on the wrong side of the street.

The driver, later identified as Agudo, initially provided a fictitious name to police. After further investigation, they learned he was using an alias, a fake driver’s license and a false Social Security card.

Once they determined Agudo’s true identity, officers checked for warrants for his arrest. They found one through Shawnee County for identity fraud.

Agudo was arrested and transported to the Arkansas City Police Department, where sobriety tests were administered.

He then was transported to and booked into the county jail at 4:25 a.m. Dec. 18.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
