Arkansas City man arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery
Gutierrez accused of domestic violence after allegedly stabbing woman in ear
ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (Aug. 27, 2018) — The Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man Aug. 25 in connection with an alleged aggravated battery on Aug. 23.
Evaristo Gutierrez, 47, was arrested on suspicion of one felony count of aggravated battery-domestic violence.
He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield in lieu of $10,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City.
Gutierrez remained in custody at the time of this release.
Officers were dispatched around 9:36 a.m. Aug. 24 to an Arkansas City residence for a report of a domestic disturbance that had occurred the prior day.
They made contact with the alleged victim, a 37-year-old Arkansas City female, who reported being battered multiple times. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly attempted to stab her with a knife and eventually succeeded in stabbing her through one ear.
The Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department was called to the scene to evaluate the victim. She later sought treatment of her injuries at South Central Kansas Medical Center.
The suspect, who was identified as Gutierrez, could not be located at the time of the initial report. He later was arrested and taken into custody at 4:10 p.m. Aug. 25 in the 100 block of West Cedar Avenue.
