Final Outdoor Friday Family Movie to be featured on June 24
Outdoor series tentatively scheduled to resume in late July or early August
The 2016 Outdoor Friday Family Movie Series will conclude its spring schedule with a live-action Disney blockbuster hit June 24 at Wilson Park.
This showing of the 2015 version of “Cinderella” will complete the 13-film schedule that began April 22.
The movie will begin promptly at 7 p.m. under the Wilson Park rotunda, 701 N. Summit St.
The sponsor of “Cinderella” is Reedy Ford. Concessions will be provided by the Early Bird Lions Club.
The film is free and open to the public. Several park benches are available, but movie-goers may wish to bring their own lawn chairs for comfort.
Misters and fans will be set up to cool the rotunda.
Promotional materials such as posters will be made available to media upon request.
The 2015 Outdoor Summer Movie Series was a huge success in the debut season for the new V.J. Wilkins Memorial Stage at the rotunda, with particularly large crowds viewing “Big Hero 6” and “Frozen.”
A special fall showing of “Inside Out” drew more than 300 people to the rotunda last November, despite colder temperatures.
Weather also has been a factor keeping attendance down for some of this year’s movies, but more than 500 people packed Paris Park Pool for a special doubleheader movie event June 10.
City officials hope to show more movies in late July or early August and also during Arkalalah.
The projection equipment, sound system and stage all were made possible by a grant received two years ago from the V.J. Wilkins Memorial Foundation, in order to promote the arts throughout the city.
