Outdoor Summer Movie Series to resume April 22 at Wilson Park
The 2016 Outdoor Summer Movie Series will kick off April 22 in Arkansas City with a double feature under the Wilson Park rotunda, 701 N. Summit St.
A total of 13 movies are planned each Friday night through June 24 (except June 3, due to PrairieFest), including several doubleheaders and a special movie night event at another location.
All movie nights will begin promptly at 7 p.m. each Friday.
The 2016 series will kick off with “Jurassic World,” sponsored by RCB Bank, and “Jurassic Park,” cosponsored by the City of Arkansas City and the Arkansas City Public Library.
The full schedule of movies for this spring will be announced at the kickoff event April 22.
Promotional materials such as posters will be made available to media starting April 25.
The 2015 Outdoor Summer Movie Series was a huge success in the debut season for the new V.J. Wilkins Memorial Stage at the rotunda, with particularly large crowds viewing “Big Hero 6” and “Frozen.”
A special fall showing of “Inside Out” drew more than 300 people to the rotunda last November, despite colder temperatures. City officials hope to show more movies in August and during Arkalalah.
The projection equipment, sound system and stage all were made possible by a grant received two years ago from the V.J. Wilkins Memorial Foundation, in order to promote the arts throughout the city.
