Arkansas City man arrested on suspicion of burglary, theft

Jose-Sebastian also accused of criminal damage to property at video store

Arkansas City Police Department logoThe Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man April 29 in connection with the burglary of a house and a video store in central Arkansas City.

Pascual Jose-Sebastian, 22, was arrested on suspicion of felony burglary of a non-dwelling and two felony counts of interference with law enforcement. He also was arrested on two misdemeanor counts of criminal damage to property and misdemeanor theft of property or services totaling less than $1,000.

Jose-Sebastian was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.

Police were dispatched April 29 to the 200 block of East Pine Avenue after a citizen reported seeing a male carry items in and out of a vacant house there. Officers checked the house and found no one.

The witness told officers that the suspect had seen police arrive and fled north on foot on A Street. He was located, with blood on his arm, in the alleyway between the 900 blocks of North A and B streets.

The suspect, later identified as Jose-Sebastian, was detained while officers investigated the incident.

They found a broken cash register and other stolen items inside the house on Pine, and shortly thereafter, they found criminal damage to Latino Imports and Video, located at 912 N. Summit St.

The front window of the store had been broken in and was thought to be the point of entry for a related burglary. Items including a cash register were found to be missing from the business.

Jose-Sebastian subsequently was taken into custody in connection with both incidents.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
