Arkansas City man arrested June 15 for aggravated battery

Schovan accused of battering 26-year-old victim who was flown to Wichita

Arkansas City Police Department badgeThe Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man June 15 on suspicion of battering a 26-year-old Arkansas City man the prior night.

Christopher Charles Schovan, 32, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery-domestic violence, which is a felony.

Schovan was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He since has posted bond and been released.

Officers were dispatched at 9:55 p.m. June 14 for a report of possible disturbance in the 1200 block of North Summit Street. They found the victim lying unconscious in the driveway of a residence.

The victim had serious injuries to his head and face.

He was transported by the Arkansas City Fire-EMS Department to South Central Kansas Medical Center and eventually airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, where he currently is being treated.

Witnesses present told police the victim had been involved with an unknown person, who later was identified as Schovan. They later reported that Schovan had left the scene just prior to officers’ arrival.

The investigation continued June 15. Schovan was contacted, interviewed and taken into custody.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
