Arkansas City Police Department badgeThe Arkansas City Police Department arrested a man Sept. 1 after a domestic violence incident led to a standoff with the suspect in a crawlspace.

Timothy Lee Richardson, 45, of Arkansas City, was arrested on suspicion of battery-domestic violence and criminal restraint-domestic violence, both of which are misdemeanors.

He also was arrested on an Arkansas City Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear.

Richardson was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $2,940 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. He remained in custody at the time of this release.

Officers responded at 4:38 p.m. Sept. 1 for a report of a criminal matter in the 1100 block of North A Street. They contacted a local resident, who reported she had been the victim of battery and restraint.

The victim, a 43-year-old Arkansas City woman, identified Richardson, an acquaintance of hers, as the suspect and reported that he had attacked her from behind after she had entered her residence.

Richardson then allegedly fled to a nearby residence and concealed himself in a crawlspace. A standoff with police ensued that lasted about an hour, after which he was taken into custody peacefully.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
