Ark City man arrested on Easter after alleged attempted theft

Griffith jailed on suspicion of aggravated robbery, accused of brandishing knife

Arkansas City Police Department badgeThe Arkansas City Police Department arrested an Arkansas City man April 1 after he allegedly attempted to steal a car while armed with a weapon.

Aaron Christian Griffith, 18, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, which is a felony.

He was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. Griffith remained in custody at the time of this release.

Officers were dispatched about 5:40 p.m. April 1 to the 400 block of East Fifth Avenue for a report of an attempted theft involving a possible weapon.

The victim, a 17-year-old Arkansas City male, said he discovered the suspect in the process of stealing his car.

Based on the description given, officers were able to locate Griffith a few blocks away from the scene and took him into custody.

Griffith allegedly had displayed a knife toward the victim and indicated he was going to take the vehicle, but then he fled on foot without taking the vehicle, although he allegedly took money from a compartment inside the vehicle.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
