Arkansas City Police Department badgeARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (March 11, 2019) The Arkansas City Police Department arrested two people March 10 for theft after they were stopped north of Winfield, towing a trailer stolen earlier that day.

Courtney Brooke Demaree, 37, of Arkansas City, and Timothy Paul Wedel, 37, of Wichita, both were arrested on suspicion of felony theft. Each was transported to and booked into the Cowley County Jail in Winfield in lieu of $2,000 bond through Cowley County District Court in Arkansas City. Both Demaree and Wedel remained in custody at the time of this release.

Officers responded early March 10 to the 900 block of North First Street for a theft report.

The resident discovered that a Roadclipper trailer had been stolen. An investigation was started.

Later that day, the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle in the 6000 block of U.S. 77, just north of the K-15 turnoff, for a traffic violation.

The vehicle was pulling the stolen trailer, which was recovered and returned to its owner.

Demaree and Wedel, the stopped vehicle’s occupants, were taken into custody without incident.

“We would like to thank the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Highway Patrol for their assistance in closing this case so quickly,” said ACPD Capt. Eric Burr.

A defendant’s guilt or innocence is to be determined by a court of law.
