Poplar Walking Trail closed until October so it can be finalized

Trail repaved earlier this year, will receive sealant, has new workout stations

City of Arkansas City logoARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (Sept. 23, 2019) The Poplar Walking Trail, located at 925 E. Poplar Ave., will be closed temporarily to the public to finish off a repaving project that began earlier this year.

A sealant will be applied to the trail starting at 8 a.m. Sept. 25. The trail will remain closed to the public through at least Oct. 1.

The sealant will help to protect the new asphalt that was laid down earlier this spring.

With the south extension of the trail, it is now 1 mile long and features workout/stretching stations at regular intervals.

Poplar Walking TrailThe southern end also has been built up considerably to alleviate flooding issues that have plagued the trail in the past. A culvert allows for drainage under the southern portion of the trail to prevent backup.

“Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this final phase of repaving this popular walking and bicycling trail,” said Public Services Superintendent Tony Tapia.
