Odor may be noticeable as Creekstone commences lagoon work

Maintenance scheduled to begin March 10, continue for 2-3 additional weeks

City of Arkansas City logoARKANSAS CITY, Kan. (March 6, 2020) Starting March 10, residents in north Arkansas City and rural areas to the north may notice an odor as a local meatpacking plant refurbishes its wastewater lagoons.

Creekstone Farms Premium Beef LLC, located at 604 Goff Industrial Park Road, will commence refurbishing its lagoons next week. This maintenance is expected to continue for two to three weeks.

“During this period, you may notice a strong odor in the area,” said City Manager Nick Hernandez.

“This odor is harmless, although it may be somewhat unpleasant, and this will only be temporary.”

Creekstone will be removing sludge from the lagoons, which are located north of the processing facility between 252nd Road and Goff Industrial Park Road, and installing new lagoon covers afterward.

Creekstone officials apologize for any inconvenience this may cause area residents and ask for their patience as they complete this needed maintenance.
